Offshore World Championship WS Adopted L30

World Sailing recently made an announcement that L30, which is a 30-foot one-design keel boat, has got a green signal. It has been chosen for supplying equipment for Offshore World Championship of World Sailing from the year 2020.

The L30 is basically a modern one design and light boat having great potential of racing. This is making the boat an apt for the Championship. The one design boats mean, all boats are of the same length, features, and weight and have similar equipment and rigging. This ensures that all participating sailors are competing in the race with equal resources and even playing field.

Valletta, Malta is going to host the first edition of this Offshore World Championship (OWC) in 2020 October and it will be the first time that L30 will be presented on the world stage.

The boat was tested first in 2015 November. The concept of L30 was drawn up by Rodion Luka who is the Olympic medallist as well as the competitor of Volvo Ocean Race. Andrej Justin, the RC44 designer, brought life to L30 combining the overall offshore performance, astringent one-design model, ease of logistics, affordability, and ease of logistics.

This Championship is going to be a two-person mixed one, (one woman and one man) and between nations representing 20 boats. All boats will be licensed by the national teams and it will be given to sailors just a week before the championship through a boat draw. The competition will take place next to the Rolex Middle Sea Race (RMSR), then all competitors will be required to sail the reduced course or full course based on the weather conditions of that day.

The championship will engage nation’s fresh to sailing double-handed offshore by offering L30s full fleet that are all set to use at the event place.
